Troubleshooting email delivery
Bloop’s referral and affiliate emails share one sender configuration, so a delivery problem in one program usually affects both. Check the sender setup first, then the individual template.
Email is not arriving, or lands in spam
Section titled “Email is not arriving, or lands in spam”| Cause | How to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Sending from the default shared domain | Settings → General shows email-bsscommerce.com as the sender domain |
Set up your own domain so DKIM and SPF authenticate your mail |
| DNS records added but not propagated | The domain is not yet Active | Wait for propagation — typically 24–48 hours — then verify again |
| A DNS record was copied incorrectly | Verification keeps failing | Re-copy each record from the table with its copy button and compare it character for character |
| The sender address is unverified | The field reads Unverified | Complete the emailed confirmation. You cannot save settings while it is unverified |
| Your plan changed | The sender domain reverted to email-bsscommerce.com |
A custom sender domain is a premium feature; it reverts if the plan no longer includes it |
Resending the address confirmation is rate-limited to once every 30 seconds.
Use a dedicated subdomain such as marketing.yourstore.com rather than your root domain, so bulk mail does not borrow — or damage — the reputation of the domain your order confirmations go out on.
The sender domain will not add or verify
Section titled “The sender domain will not add or verify”| What the setup modal says | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The domain is already verified by another store | A sending domain can belong to one store only | Use a different domain or subdomain, or contact support from the link in the message if the domain is yours |
| The subdomain already points somewhere else | The subdomain has a CNAME record, and a subdomain with a CNAME cannot hold email records, so verification can never pass | Pick a subdomain that is not in use, such as mail.yourstore.com |
| Your records were found at a longer name | Your DNS provider added your root domain to the name for you, so the record ended up at the wrong name | In the Name field, enter only the short name shown under each record |
The email arrived from the wrong name or address
Section titled “The email arrived from the wrong name or address”The preview inside the template editor shows the From address next to the subject. All three settings (sender name, sender address, sender domain) live on Settings → General. The sender name needs no verification; the address does.
Until you verify your own sender domain, emails are sent from Bloop’s own sending address with your sender name, and your sender address is set as the Reply-To. This is expected: it keeps your emails out of spam, and customer replies still reach you. Once your own domain is verified, the From address moves to your sender address. See where your emails come from.
A customer stopped receiving emails
Section titled “A customer stopped receiving emails”Marketing emails from the referral program carry an Unsubscribe link in the footer, and a one-click unsubscribe option that inbox providers such as Gmail and Yahoo show next to the sender. This applies to the sharing invitation, the welcome email, the reminder and reward-expiry emails, and the not-enough-referees email, as well as the invitation sent when you add an affiliate manually. The footer is translated when your store’s language is one Bloop supports, and stays in English otherwise.
A customer who unsubscribes stops receiving these marketing emails from your store only. Transactional emails, such as their discount code, a reward they earned, or a Hub sign-in link, are still delivered and carry no unsubscribe link. If a customer asks to receive marketing emails again after unsubscribing, contact support.
A variable shows up as literal text
Section titled “A variable shows up as literal text”An unfilled variable is left exactly as written rather than rendered blank, so {{ReferralLnk}} reaches the customer’s inbox spelled that way. This is nearly always a typo from hand-typing.
Use Insert variable in the editor instead of typing — it lists only the variables valid for the template you are editing, which differ per email. A referee’s template has no referrer reward to show, for instance.
A specific email never sends
Section titled “A specific email never sends”| Cause | Where to look |
|---|---|
| The email is switched off | Every template has its own switch on the campaign’s Email notifications page |
| It ships disabled by default | The affiliate “declined” and “denied” templates and both owner notifications are off until you turn them on |
| It belongs to a different campaign | Emails belong to the campaign — a second campaign has its own set |
| A recurring email hit its stopping rule | Recurring sends stop on your rule, and always after 12 months from enrolment |
| The event never happened | A pending-reward email only sends if a reward actually went to review |
| The customer unsubscribed | Marketing emails skip customers who used the unsubscribe link; see above |
Be careful switching off the pending and declined emails. They are the ones that explain a reward that did not arrive, and without them a referrer’s only signal is silence — which becomes a support ticket.
A test send does not reach you
Section titled “A test send does not reach you”Test sends are rate-limited, so send in small batches. Send referral tests to the address of a real referrer: Bloop fills the variables from their actual data, so you see the email a customer would get rather than placeholder text.
You would rather send from Klaviyo or Mailchimp
Section titled “You would rather send from Klaviyo or Mailchimp”Bloop can hand its events over instead of sending its own email. Those flows carry a permanent hub link as a profile property — BLOOP Hub Portal in Klaviyo, BLOOPHUB in Mailchimp — so an email sent days later still signs the referrer in. See Klaviyo and Mailchimp.
