How to control how a reward reads to customers

Everywhere Bloop mentions a reward — widgets, popups, emails, the referral hub — it renders a variable, {{ReferrerReward}} or {{RefereeReward}}, and fills it with the raw value: 30%, $10 USD, Free 2 Sample Kit. That’s accurate but not always honest. A reward restricted to one collection still renders as a flat “30%”, and the customer only discovers the restriction at checkout.

Reward display lets you write what the customer reads instead. Open it from Customize reward display on the reward editor, or from Branding → Reward display.

Text is set per side and per product condition, so each combination of “who” and “what it applies to” gets its own wording:

Side Conditions
Referee reward All products · Specific products · Product collections · Specific product variants
Referrer reward All products · Specific products · Product collections · Specific product variants

Only the condition your reward actually uses is in play — the rest sit there ready if you change scope later. Leave a field empty and Bloop falls back to the raw value, so you only write the ones that need explaining.

You can keep the variable inside your own sentence. {{RefereeReward}} off skincare renders as 30% off skincare, which stays correct if you later change the discount to 25%.

  1. Open the reward and check its Apply to products setting, so you know which condition to fill in.
  2. Open Customize reward display.
  3. Pick the language you’re writing in.
  4. Expand Referee reward or Referrer reward and fill the field for your condition.
  5. Check the example line underneath — it shows the text with the variable already substituted.
  6. Save.

Text is stored per language. If automatic translation is on for the campaign, writing your default language is enough; otherwise switch languages and write each one. See campaign language settings.

Reward Default rendering Better display text
30% off, collection-scoped 30% {{RefereeReward}} off everything in Winter Essentials
$10 fixed, all products $10 USD {{RefereeReward}} off your first order
Free product Free Sample Kit A free Sample Kit with your next order
Store credit, 3-referral minimum $25 USD {{ReferrerReward}} in store credit, after 3 friends buy

When an A/B test is running, variant B keeps its own display text, so you can test wording as well as value. Variant B falls back to variant A’s text where you haven’t written one, and to the raw value where neither exists.

  • Hard-coding the number. Writing 30% off skincare instead of {{RefereeReward}} off skincare means the copy lies the day you change the discount.
  • Writing it in one language and assuming the rest. Check automatic translation is on, or fill each language yourself.
  • Explaining the restriction only in the display text. The text sets expectations; the reward’s Apply to products setting is what actually enforces them.
