How to control when a reward is issued and revoked
Setting what a referrer earns is one decision; setting when it lands, how long it lasts, and when you can take it back is another. Those timing controls are gathered here. For the reward itself — type, value and scope — see how to set up referrer and referee rewards.
These controls sit in two places. Expiry is set with the reward itself — Referral → Campaigns, open the campaign, then Referrer reward. The review period and the revocation rules are store-wide, on Referral → Settings under Reward review period and Order Settings.
Expiry
Section titled “Expiry”Reward codes can expire after a set number of days, or never expire. A short period (14–30 days) creates gentle urgency; use None for long, considered sales cycles. Turn on the Reward expiry reminder email and Bloop reminds referrers before a code expires.
Review period
Section titled “Review period”The review period delays reward approval by a number of hours. The default is 6 hours. Set 0 for instant approval, or lengthen it for high-value cash rewards or if you’ve seen abuse. Suspicious orders are always held separately, regardless of this setting.
When a reward counts as earned
Section titled “When a reward counts as earned”Choose when a referral counts as successful: Paid (default, the fastest thank-you and right for most stores), or Fulfilled (waits until you ship, useful for made-to-order goods or pre-orders). Set this in Referral → Settings → Order Settings, under Grant referral reward when the order is.
Revoking a reward
Section titled “Revoking a reward”If an order is cancelled or refunded, Bloop can take back a reward. Choose when under Referral → Settings → Order Settings, in Revoke the referrer’s reward when the order is:
| Setting | Reward is revoked when… |
|---|---|
| Canceled or refunded (default) | The order is cancelled or refunded |
| Canceled | Only when the order is cancelled |
| Refunded | Only when the order is refunded |
A refund counts once it covers almost the whole order. Bloop treats an order as refunded when 90% or more of its item value has been refunded (shipping is not counted). A smaller partial refund keeps the reward.
The order is checked again before the reward goes out. Just before a reward is issued, including at the end of a review period or a fraud hold, Bloop looks at the order again. If it has been cancelled or refunded by then (under the same setting), the referral is rejected instead of rewarded.
What revoking takes back depends on the reward:
| Reward | When it is revoked |
|---|---|
| Discount code or free product | The code is removed, unless it has already been used |
| Store credit | Bloop deducts up to the reward amount from whatever store credit the referrer still has |
| Cash | The reward is dropped, unless you have already marked it paid |
| Custom | The reward is dropped, unless it has already been fulfilled |
A revoked referral also stops counting toward the referrer’s successful referrals and FlexiTiers progress, unless its reward had already been used and could not be taken back. Every revocation is logged in referral activity and shown as Revoked on the referral hub.
